In This Post

  2. Shop Seasonally
  3. Research Different Brands

Stack Coupons

This is the number one most important money-saving tip we can share. Almost all retailers have coupon codes available online for additional discounts at checkout. We spend our days searching for these codes and the absolute best deals come when you can stack coupons.

Certain retailers allow you to stack coupons, which means you can add more than one coupon at checkout. Kohl’s is a major retailer that allows up to four coupon codes per order. When they’re offering 20% off plus an additional 10-15% off, this can really add up!

Here are some other stores that allow you to stack online coupon codes:

  • Gap
  • Banana Republic
  • Old Navy
  • Target
  • Amazon
  • Michaels

Shop Seasonally

When we suggest that you shop seasonally, we don’t mean that you should go buy winter boots when it starts to get cold. It’s actually better to shop for winter boots as the weather starts heating up. This requires a lot of planning ahead, but you’ll save hundreds every year by buying items that aren’t currently in season.

Halloween decorations, for example, are going to be deeply discounted come November 1, and Christmas trees will hit the sale shelves just before the new year. Plan ahead and create your shopping list a few months in advance to get the best deals. That’s why you’ll sometimes see our deal editors posting deals for winter coats all year round or winter boots in April.

If you’re looking for the best things to buy in October, here’s our list!

Research Different Brands

This is something our editors do on a daily basis. We know that Instant Pot and Dyson are big selling brands, but we also know that these items are more expensive and have rarer discounts than some other brands. We still hunt for deals on the big name brands, but we also look for deals on Crock Pot multicookers or Eufy and Shark vacuums.

Due to supply chain issues, we predict that big-name brand sales will be few and far between this holiday season. It’s smart to have plan B or C when it comes to these popular items so that you’ll still be able to snag a good deal even if it’s on a lesser-known brand.

Always Price Compare

It’s become too easy to hop on Amazon and purchase the first thing in your search results. We’re conditioned to think that Amazon is not only convenient but that they also have the best prices. This is not always the case. When you take into account coupon codes and price matching, you may snag a better deal elsewhere. We often see Kohl’s and even Macy’s have the best price on many items, especially for the home.

Though it will take a little more time, do a quick search for the item you’re looking for and then see if there are any coupons available to buy it for a lower price somewhere other than Amazon. A little research, especially on big-ticket items like TVs or laptops, can go a long way.

Avoid Dynamic Pricing

What exactly is dynamic pricing? It’s most simply an algorithm that retailers use when deciding how much to charge you for an item. Airline tickets are a prime example of this tactic. When comparing your ticket price to a friend’s, you’ll notice a difference in cost based on your location, the airline you fly, even the travel site you use to book the ticket. This happens a lot more than you realize even when you’re buying laundry detergent on Amazon.

Retailer’s take note of your location, the device you’re using, even your browsing history to calculate the price of an item for you and it may be vastly different than the price offered to someone across the country. To make sure you’re getting a good deal, try changing up your device settings as follows:

  1. Try another browser. If you’re on Chrome, try Firefox.
  2. Switch to an incognito window in your browser.
  3. Disable your device’s location.
  4. Clear your cache and cookies.
